Michele Vinbury

Yoga is freedom.

Michele is a co-owner of Yoga on High, in Columbus Ohio.  She is an expereinced 500 hour certified yoga teacher, an IAYT certified yoga therapist and certified iRest Yoga Nidra meditation teacher.  Michele has specialized training in trauma sensitive yoga, breathwork, and mindfulness practices, and her teaching draws on 20+ years of direct-contact volunteer service with domestic violence, sexual assault, suicide prevention and human trafficking agencies.

Michele is a dynamic, playful and interactive teacher who builds connections and community with her students through knowledge of the practices and a lighthearted sense of humor.  Central to her teaching is her ability to meet each student right where they are and to teach from a place that is neither wanting to fix nor change them.

As the Program Director for the Yoga on High Foundation, Michele has taught trauma sensitive yoga to survivors of human trafficking, sexual abuse, and sexual assault; to volunteers at a rape crisis center,; to  combat veterans; to children’s hospice workers; and to at-risk youth.  Michele has taught in an IOP program at the Center for Balanced living; to inmates at Ohio Reformatory for Women; and to staff at Netcare.  She also teaches quarterly trauma sensitive classes at Yoga on High that are open to the public.  Further, Michele is a lead teacher in the EMBER (Mindfulness Based Emotional Resilience), trauma sensitive yoga teacher training program at Yoga on High.  Due in large part to this work, in spring 2013 Michele was honored with a Community Supporter Award from the Sexual Assault Response Network of Central Ohio for her efforts to support survivors and to end sexual violence in our community.
